[edit] Adding TrueType fonts
The latest version of the BeBook firmwares supports custom TrueType fonts in MOBI format documents.
Since 2006 Microsoft has shipped six brand new typefaces created especially for extended on-screen reading with its operating system and other software products. The ClearType Font Collection incorporates improved ClearType and OpenType technologies, and a boatload of research, to improve the structure and the clarity of the letter forms.[1]
- Sans Serif: Calibri, Candara, Corbel
- Serif: Cambria, Constantina
- Monospaced: Consolas
[edit] Installation
Detailed instructions from Jinke Electronics, for the Hanlin update V2.02EN 2009-01-20:
- "Put font library in SD:/fonts/ under index or built-in/storage:/fonts/ index"
- Apparently this means a directory named
fontsat the root of the SD flash card.
- Apparently this means a directory named
- "The file name should be all in capital letters or small letters" or it "won’t be displayed in the list of MOBI READER font library".
- All "4 font libraries should be complete" or it "won’t be displayed in the list of MOBI READER font library".
- These are Normal (xxxx.TTF), Bold italic (xxxxBI.TTF), Bold (xxxxBD.TTF), and Italic (xxxxI.TTF)
Normal font
Bold italic font
Bold font
Italic fontXXXX.TTF
XXXXBI.TTF
XXXXBD.TTF
XXXXI.TTFxxxx.ttf
xxxxbi.ttf
xxxxbd.ttf
xxxxi.ttf
You must follow the instructions carefully.[2]
- All the names for each font must be either all UPPER case or all lowercase. For example, the standard fonts are called IBOOKN, times and arial (no initial cap)
- Also, don't be fooled by the references to "index", the fonts go in the /font/ folder on the storage where the mobi file you are reading resides.
[edit] Firmware update
Firmware update is way more difficult than you'd expect. For some reason it's extremely fussy about the layout of the SD card
- Use a 3rd party FAT32 format utility: Firmware Update: Solved thread on the BeBook Support, tips & tricks forum
- I finally had success with a new, 2GB Transcend SD card
